Dry ice is called dry ice because it changes directly from a solid to a gas and never turns to a liquid. The process is called sublimation.
The speed of the process is determined by how much heat is present. Dry ice stored in a cooler will have a longer life cycle. For example, 5 lbs. of dry ice can last approximately 10 hours.
