What are the uses of Hydrogen? Hydrogen (H2) is a flammable, colorless, odorless, compressed gas at high pressure. Hydrogen is used in chemical synthesis to produce ammonia, methanol and other products. It is used in hydrogenation of edible oils and petroleum products. It is mixed with air to form the fuel gas for FID gas chromatography (usually Zero Grade) and is sometimes a carrier gas. Other uses are annealing and heat treating of metals.
