Airgas Bolsters Pacific Northwest Supply Chain with Four Major Infrastructure Upgrades

Airgas, an Air Liquide company, has announced the completion of four strategic infrastructure projects in its NorPac Region, a direct investment in the company’s commitment to being the most customer-centric supplier of gases, welding, and safety products in the Pacific Northwest. Significant investments—a state-of-the-art Air Separation Unit (ASU) in Kent, WA, a major argon rail hub in Kalama, WA, a newly built fill plant in Vancouver, WA and a fully renovated branch in Seattle, WA—are designed to deliver tailored solutions and unmatched reliability, helping customers in key market segments achieve their peak potential every day.

These four projects are tangible proof of the Airgas customer-centric approach:

  • Reliable Local Production (Kent, WA): A completely refurbished, state-of-the-art Air Separation Unit (ASU) in Kent provides a high-volume, local source of high-purity oxygen, nitrogen and argon. This investment expands upon current in-market production, positioning Airgas for long-term growth and providing reliability and resilience that is critical for aerospace and life sciences customers.
  • Expanded Argon (Kalama, WA) and Carbon Dioxide (CO2 - Finley, WA) storage and supply infrastructure: The new Argon (Kalama) rail node creates the largest single argon hub in the region. Similarly, investment in the existing CO2 rail node (Finley) improves the capacity and efficiency of this strategic product source. Both investments will bolster supply reliability for critical welding, metal fabrication, food and beverage applications in the Pacific Northwest.
  • Optimized Cylinder Processing (Vancouver, WA): The newly built Vancouver facility features expanded capacity to streamline the cylinder filling process. This enhancement enables more responsive delivery to keep local construction and manufacturing projects on schedule.
  • Full-Service Seattle Branch (Seattle, WA): The complete renovation of the Seattle retail branch, located at 4401 Airport Way South, transforms it into a one-stop productivity hub where customers can interact with Airgas and Red-D-Arc experts and access a full range of gases, advanced welding equipment and vital safety PPE, providing a seamless blend of digital enablement and human touch.

In addition, welcoming the team from A-L Compressed Gases, Inc. to the Airgas NorPac Region through acquisition earlier this year strategically expanded Airgas’ capabilities and network across central and eastern Washington and Northern Idaho.

Mike Smith, President of the Airgas NorPac Region, states, “In today's environment, our customers need more than just a gas supplier – they need a company who anticipates their needs and understands the importance of reliable supply. Airgas is uniquely equipped to support the needs of diverse customers of all sizes, from local shops to large enterprises. These four strategic investments enhance a responsive, localized network that allows us to deliver on that commitment and fuel the innovation of the Pacific Northwest.”
