Applications
Industrial grade Argon is primarily used in metal fabrication as a welding shielding gas. It is essential for gas metal arc welding (GMAW) and gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW) because it enhances arc stability and prevents atmospheric contamination of welding pools.
In steelmaking, argon serves two key functions: stirring the molten metal and providing an inert atmosphere. It is also essential in the Argon Oxygen Decarburisation (AOD) process used for stainless steel production.
Argon also has applications in window and glass manufacturing, specifically to enhance the thermal insulation of double glazing windows. Additionally, it helps prevent corrosion of tungsten filaments in light bulbs.
