Confined Spaces

How can you identify standard confined spaces (no permit-required)?

Confined spaces that do not require permits do not contain or have the potential to contain any hazard capable of causing death or serious physical harm.

Keep your team safe with OSHA-compliant equipment

Both permit-required and non-permit-required confined spaces call for you to have all the right safety gear and PPE to keep your team working in compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations. Whether you need physical protection like hard hats and harnesses, or something to keep you covered when hard-to-see threats abound--like dangerous gases or irritants that require monitors and eye protection--you can find it all at Airgas.

Is your confined space permit-required?

According to OSHA, a permit-required confined space has one or more of the following characteristics:

  • Contains or has the potential to contain a hazardous atmosphere
  • Contains a material that has the potential for engulfing an entrant
  • Has a configuration that could trap an entrant, causing asphyxiation
  • Contains any other recognized serious safety or health hazard

Avoid costly OSHA violations

If your jobsite meets the criteria for a permit-required confined space, there are additional precautions you must take to ensure your team is meeting OSHA safety regulations.
